Remembering Christmas As It Was, As It Is

I’m not a huge fan of Christmas. Personally, it’s too commercialized. Fancy, blinking lights. Overpriced toys. Sales on overpriced clothing to make it regular price. An abundance of candy to make me gain weight. Presents to buy. Presents to Wrap. Sometimes, I just want to shudder at all of it.

Then, I go to church.

Hosannah.
“Save us now.”

Emmanuel.
“God with us.”

And then, the beauty of Christmas begins to sink back in and fill my heart – the coming of Savior and the hope of the redemption of humanity. It is indeed beautiful.

I sing Emmanuel, and my heart is thankful.

I seem to be experiencing more of the joy of Christmas than I have in a number of years. I’m not sure why . . . it might have something to do with my involvement in in leading our church’s prayer ministry.
